Today’s evening came by the heart breaking and shocking news of the sudden demise of our own Asif Aslam Farrukhi. ” إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعونَ ” Daunting intensity of the struggles in these challenging times, just got a bit more worse. We have lost one of our most brightly shining star.
Asif was a phenomenal colleague and an inspirational source to make sense of these bizarre times. That’s one of the key reasons why Asif was adored by our students. What a feat to inculcate love, ethic and aesthetic of fine literature in our community. Asif rooted plurality and diversity in the very mission of our University via his unmatched love of literature in all languages. Habib University will always have multiple intellectual features indicating Asif’s indelible influence and legacy.
Asif was a guide for our institution to ensure great support for all our students by guiding our student life and scholarship programs. Asif was instrumental in introducing Habib University to legends like Intizar Hussain and Zehra Nigah. I am sure if Ghalib and Mir were around, Asif would’ve arranged for them to visit our campus.
All of us are indebted to Asif’s generous and giving spirit. We have lost an amazing colleague and friend.
Please accept my heartbroken tasleeyat, taaziyat, condolences.
