As a part of Habib University’s mission to shape the future of Pakistan’s youth, the University is committed to providing an unparalleled learning experience, that’s based on a holistic student-centered design approach. To celebrate the success of our faculty in creating a culture of inspired learning, the University has launched “Teaching Excellence Awards”.
In announcing the award, Dr. Christopher Taylor, Vice President Academic Affairs (VPAA) and the Dean of Faculty said that teachers are “an often-forgotten group of people on every campus, who work tirelessly, give off their knowledge, themselves and their time, who in many respects are the backbone of a quality institution.”
“It is only befitting that as we celebrate Convocation 2021, we pay tribute to our beloved faculty.”
About the awards, he said that Habib University’s focus on teaching excellence is both unparalleled and expressed in various ways, such as through our Centre for Pedagogical Excellence (CPE), a promotion process for faculty and an intricate assessment of all courses.
The winners were selected by a jury after assessing courses on a holistic framework, measuring their excellence in content, pedagogy, assessment and intellectual community-building.
Dr. Taylor added that these awards celebrate the extraordinary dedication, innovative creativity and the commitment of our faculty to mentoring and tutoring Habib University’s students.
“In this inaugural year of the Habib University Teaching Excellence Awards, it is notable that almost half of our faculty were nominated by our Habib students for these awards.”
During this year’s convocation, two awards were announced, the Distinguished Award in Teaching Excellence for a Course offered through Dhanani School of Science and Engineering (DSSE) and the Distinguished Award in Teaching Excellence for a course offered through the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS).
The winner for the Distinguished Award in Teaching for an AHSS course was presented to Ms. Manahil Huda, Lecturer, Communication and Design, for her Trans Design Practicum course.
The winner for the Distinguished Award in Teaching for a DSSE course was jointly presented to Dr Muhamad Farhan, Assistant Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, for his course: Computer Vision.
The other recipient of the Distinguished Award in Teaching for a DSSE course was Mr. Junaid Ahmed Memon, Lecturer, Electrical and Computer Engineering, for his course: Principles of Feedback Control.
