Every year the National University of Singapore (NUS) hosts the NUS Enterprise Summer Program, a 2-week program which focuses on entrepreneurship and economic development in Singapore. The Sajjad Foundation Singapore is a philanthropic endeavor which sponsors students to attend the program. This year, in collaboration with Habib University, 15 undergraduate students were selected from universities all over the world through a scrupulous process to attend the program.
The purpose of the NUS Enterprise Summer Program is for undergraduate students to learn about the culture and life in Singapore, to interact with the locals and come up with innovative solutions to the problems they face through friendly competitions between the students.
One of our HU Lions in attendance, Aarti Lilaram, won first prize along with five other members of her group, at one of these very competitions. Her group consisted of participants all coming from different countries. Their purpose was to pitch in ideas and construct a working business model which represented all that they had learnt in their two-week program, and by living in the thriving port country of Singapore.
Their group’s winning idea was named nEDwork, and was based on building a forum that would provide tutoring and connectivity to students with the help of professors and alumni. Their purpose was to analyze the way students find themselves under pressure when beginning university education, and to come up with a strategy to cope with the difficulties that come with starting higher education. nEDwork is also an interactive platform for students to connect and mingle with their community.
