Final Year Project
Project Title
AI-Based Teaching Platform for Primary Education
Description
In this final-year research project, we fine-tuned an AI model (phi-4) to enable it to teach Mathematics for primary education in a "Socratic" manner; hinting and guiding the students instead of giving them the answers. We curated our own dataset and fine-tuned it on our online available dataset, then added an external verifier, Mathematica, to improve its mathematical computational accuracy. A Direct Preference Optimization was then employed (asking teachers and students to use the chatbot then saving their preferences) to further domain adapt. In conclusion, the results on Sindh Board Mathematics outperformed those of GPT-5's "study and learn" mode, which is also based on Socratic teaching. Hence, guided reasoning instead of direct answers helps students develop critical thinking skills.
