Final Year Project
Project Title
Political Economy of Commercial Housing Projects in Pakistan
Description
My thesis analyses the land seizure and displacement of the underprivileged villagers by the Bahria Town Karachi, who advertise themselves as providing a secure environment for residential life. I examine the commodification of land distributed among Karachi’s elite through investment in real estate, the establishment of mega projects and the violation of law to illegally sanction land grabbing by political leaders, as well as illegal construction. My ethnographic analysis investigates the threats to livelihood, identity, and emotional attachment of villagers.
