Many women in Pakistan are expected to choose between career and marriage as a mode of living, some struggle to accept and juggle the concept of “either one or the other”. The thesis investigates factors that make women choose between career and marriage, and identifies where the socially constructed idea of a “good woman” makes its place in this situation? The main purpose of this research is to call out the normalized dilemma faced by most women in South Asian societies when they are asked to choose one of the two things between career and marriage when it should be completely normal to have both. Furthermore, this research aims to find whether there are specific factors that affect the choice and how (and in what ways) choosing either of the options affect a woman’s life purpose and satisfaction.
