Final Year Project

Project Title

Water crisis of Pakistan

Description

The water crisis is a growing global concern as 97% of the world’s water has gradually become saline. This means that only 3% of the world’s water is currently fit for usage. Statistics indicate that 844 million people across the globe live without access to safe drinking water. My thesis explores the global crisis in its broader understanding, and offers an explanation on what constitutes global water scarcity. I study different aspects and causes of this crisis, including world’s water depletion due to excessive use in agriculture and meagre storage capacities. I also discuss my findings on a case study that I conducted on Pakistan and the effects of the global water crisis in the Indus basin, with an ethnographic focus on an urban slum in Karachi as well.
