Final Year Project

Project Title

Rethinking Being: Comparative Ontologies of Sadra and Heidegger

Description

This study compares the ontological frameworks of Mulla Sadra (1571-1640) and Martin Heidegger (1889-1976), focusing on their shared emphasis on the primacy of Being over Essence, a shift from the Essentialist traditions they inherited. Sadra diverged from his predecessors’ Transcendental Illuminationist philosophy, highlighting Being's temporality and manifestation through emanation. Similarly, Heidegger critiqued Western metaphysical traditions to revive the "question of Being" and its neglected Clearing. By comparing their ontologies, this research illuminates shared metaphysical themes, contributing to the dialogue between Heidegger and Islamic metaphysical traditions, particularly Sadra’s emanative philosophy"
