Final Year Project
Project Title
How is Social Capital a Coping Mechanism for Hindus in Karachi, Pakistan
Description
This qualitative research examines how Hindu minority communities in Karachi utilize social capital as a coping mechanism in the face of socioeconomic and religious marginalization. Through survey responses from community members, the study explores how bonding and bridging social capital, including family networks, religious institutions, and community organizations, provide emotional support, resource access, and collective resilience. The research investigates the intersection of religion, minority status, and health outcomes within a social determinant of health framework. Findings reveal five key mechanisms through which social capital functions as a protective factor, including mutual aid networks, religious community support, and intergenerational knowledge transfer. This research contributes to understanding community-based health resources and has implications for culturally competent public health interventions serving marginalized populations.
