Final Year Project
Project Title
Visual Impairment and Tertiary Education: Needs, Challenges and Current Practices in Karachi
Description
This thesis research is an ongoing project which aims to 1. Identify the tertiary education needs of students with visual impairment in Karachi, 2. Identify common challenges and barriers faced in accessing and/or providing university education adapted to students with visual impairment in Karachi, and 3. Explore current practices and programs for the visually impaired, within the educational system in Karachi, and assess how students with visual impairment are served and/or under-served in universities/colleges across the city. The preliminary findings have helped to design a social action project aiming at creating a workplace and society accessible and inclusive for those with visual impairment, which has also received $1000 seed funding from UNICEF and UNDP. It is hoped that inferences from this research shall be used to develop projects and interventions to improve the quality of living of visually impaired people. (Group Project)
