Final Year Project
Project Title
The Culture of Dowry in South Asia
Description
According to United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Pakistan, dowry is identified as one of the sixteen forms of gender-based violence against women. My thesis attempts to understand the cultural, religious, and social reasons behind dowry being practiced, especially in the context of Pakistan. Over 2000 dowry related deaths occur in Pakistan annually, therefore a major aspect of my thesis is to highlight why, even after such a high rate of prevalence, dowry related crimes and deaths are overlooked and non-cognizable in our country.
