Project Title
Karachi Ka Haal
Description
Karachi Ka Haal is a short documentary that follows the anecdotes of Israr Nabi, Alina Baig and Saman Zahid, as they narrate their personal experiences in Karachi during the late 2000s and early 2010s. This period of time was a time of great turbulence and terrorism in the city, when bomb blasts punctuated every Friday and strikes were a weekly occurrence. These stories and perspectives serve to show others that resilience or desensitisation isn’t always the best compliment for Karachiites since it is built on a lot of trauma. The various terrorist attacks that stopped people from interacting with their city is a consequence of those times that is present even today, when the situation in the city is much safer. However, through certain smiles or small fits of giggles, we see how humour is often a coping mechanism that is used to make sense of and move on from these traumatic situations.
