Final Year Project
Project Title
Understanding the Phenomenon of Body Dissatisfaction in Young Pakistani Mothers: Reasons, Repercussions, and Coping Mechanisms
Description
This study explores experiences of body dissatisfaction in young Pakistani mothers. It discovers the reasons, the repercussions on mental and physical health, and the coping mechanisms adopted by young mothers. This study is based on the exploratory design and utilizes semi-structured virtual interviews to attain the results. The results are based on the personal experiences of young mothers and are indicative of the reasons, repercussions, and coping mechanisms. It has enriched findings as it undertakes lived experiences of women and studies them in depth. Its conclusions include an enhanced focus on past traumas as a reason for body dissatisfaction, other than comparisons and comments. It also shows that this phenomenon had no explicit repercussion on physical health, but various ramifications (such as depression and mood swings) are borne by the mental health. Coping mechanisms reported are also diverse and contain some contrasting findings than the existing literature on the topic.
