Project Title
Undergraduate Students Mental Health: A Study on Emotional Intelligence and Help-seeking Behavior
Description
My thesis is about assessing the possible correlation between emotional intelligence and the help-seeking behaviour of Habib University students to infer whether this link has implications for their mental health. Emotional intelligence is a comprehensive set of skills that uses our emotional information to navigate our social settings. It is increasingly recognized in the field of social psychology to promote mental health, self-development and social harmony; the lack of which results in issues like mental distresses, among many others. The act of seeking help when faced with any mental health issues can reduce the distressing psychological symptoms. However, a vast majority of people experiencing mental health challenges have a low propensity and intention of seeking help. This research is thus an exploratory quantitative study to assess whether when faced with a mental health issue a student possessing emotional intelligence reach out and seeks help from others or not. This research is important to implement and explore the dimensions of emotional intelligence in the realm of education where mental health issues are prevalent, especially among university students.
