Final Year Project

Project Title

The Popularity of Hip Hop in Lyari

Description

The research aims to study the rise of rap in the neighborhood of Lyari. The poverty-stricken town in Karachi is notorious for violence, and the community of Lyari suffers because of this image. The paper will bring forth how the youth of this town engages in activism through the art form of rap and songwriting, how they are revolutionizing the social fabric of Lyari through peaceful resistance, community building, and visionary social activism. This research is important because over the years, Lyari has been riddled with economic depravity and, as a result, has face deprivation of many resources such as water and electricity, but the culture of Lyari is emerging as a strong and vibrant phenomenon with many artists gaining prominence on the global stage.
