Final Year Project
Project Title
Design and Implementation of an Active Output Filter for DC-AC Converters
Description
Traditional DC-AC converters depend on passive LC filters to mitigate harmonics, introducing size, weight, and maintenance challenges. This project introduces an innovative Active Filter (AF) solution synergizing a compact LC filter with a high-frequency H-bridge converter to dynamically inject compensating voltage harmonics. By canceling distortions, the design achieves a sinusoidal AC output with a significant reduction in passive component volume compared to conventional systems, while enhancing reliability and scalability. Validated through both single-phase and three-phase DC-AC converter implementations, which include electrical and magnetically (transformer)-connected inverter topologies. Results demonstrate robust performance across load conditions, maintaining an acceptable total harmonic distortion (THD) without reliance on oversized passive elements. The compact, adaptive architecture reduces operational costs, and maintenance overhead due to powertrain weight, in aerospace, renewable energy, and industrial systems
