Final Year Project
Project Title
Continuous Monitoring of Climate Risks to Electricity Grid Using Google Earth Engine (GEE)
Description
Our project develops a Pandapower-Based Tool for Day-Ahead Operational Planning, improving grid resilience against extreme weather. Traditional Weather-Ignorant Systems fail to adapt to weather-induced failures, causing unserved loads and potential outages. Our Weather-Aware Power Flow System integrates historical weather data and forecasts to predict line failures and optimize generator dispatch, minimizing load shedding while balancing generation costs. Using Google Earth Engine (GEE) for precipitation analysis, we classify exposure levels to assess weather risks. This enables grid operators to make proactive decisions, enhancing reliability. Key findings confirm that weather-aware dispatch significantly reduces unserved loads, validating the importance of weather integration in planning. The tool offers a scalable, data-driven framework for utilities to strengthen grid resilience amid climate uncertainties, ensuring more reliable power distribution.
