Publications / Creative Projects
- Analyzing Data Transmission from Sensor Network Through RF-Channel: The objective of this project was to develop a system prototype that is able to transmit sensory information i.e. humidity, temperature, and pressure from a remote location to a main station, and to analyze the power required to transmit data at different distances.
- Motor Starting Techniques Using PLC: The objective of this project was to design two of the most commonly used motor starting techniques using PLC. Reducing Resistance DC Starter for DC motors and StarDelta Reducing Voltage for three phase induction motor was implemented using Mitsubishi FX3U PLC.
Final Year Project
Project Title
Designing Filter for Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
Description
Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), using power electronics produce large harmonic currents, which are to be suppressed to maintain power quality in electrical distribution systems. To avoid malfunctioning or damage to other electrical and electronic equipment such as motors, fuses and capacitor banks are connected to the supply network. This is an Industrial project which aims to devise a general methodology for designing passive filters to suppress the undesirable harmonic content produced by VFDs. Furthermore, a detailed design and implementation of 3 phase line reactor, one major component of the filter, is also a part of this project. The objective is to meet IEEE Standard 519-2014 by designing filters using our devised analytical procedure. IEEE Standard 519-2014 provides guidelines for recommended harmonic levels in electrical distribution systems including maximum voltage and current distortions. (Group Project)
