Final Year Project

Project Title

Reparative Religion: Rethinking Islamic Essentialism through Girard and Gandhi

Description

My Capstone paper explores the misrepresentation of Islam as a ‘conquest ideology’ by analyzing how jihad is often equated with militancy. By contextualizing these interpretations within South Asia’s colonial history, I argue that Islam can be reimagined as a theology of peace through René Girard’s mimetic theory. I also examine Mahatma Gandhi’s principle of satyagraha as a model for Islamic non-violence, demonstrating how it can serve as a powerful political tool against oppression.
