Project Title

Morph Bots

Description

Swarm Robotics is a rapidly developing field which aims to replicate the natural beehive behavior through robots and Artificial Intelligence. It is an approach through which an autonomous group of robots coordinate and achieve a desired task. Presently, swarm robots have successfully achieved a number of tasks ranging from creating large structures to accessing previously inaccessible areas. The implementation of swarm robotics within Morph Bots is slightly different and is inspired by programmable matter. Morph Bots is a group of small, autonomous robots that can replicate the 3-D models provided to them. The functionality and application of the robots is simulated virtually in a real-world environment to illustrate their realistic behaviour. Unique to this project is the creation of “Elevator Bots” (helper bots), acting as movable ramps to help Morph Bots climb on top of each other to recreate 3D structures. These autonomous robots have several benefits such as traversing areas unfit for humans and then re-creating necessary structures, forming bridges and other structures to aid other robots and objects such as ladders in warehouses or act as helpers to carry objects.
