Forms of Capital in Production of Indian Art: A Means of Domination During Colonial Project in India

This research aims to investigate the cultural capital of South Asia and navigate the dynamics of power and interventions surrounding it, which propagated and reinforced the colonial project. It will revisit history to highlight the pivotal role of art, an essential form of capital used by the British to aggrandize power and political domination during colonial expansion over India. In a paradigm that appreciates and aspires to Western model civilization and culture, we should not undermine the violence and brutality beneath its surface, which is masqueraded by dominant Western discourse. By drawing parallels from Black Skin, White Masks written by Frantz Fanon, this study will help bring into perspective the expansion of the colonial project beyond its material existence to a more subjective, mental level.
