Final Year Project

Project Title

Capital Crunch: Debt's Toll On Human Developent

Description

This study analyzes Pakistan's debt impact on human development indicators (HDIs) from 2008-2020 using PSLM survey data. While external borrowing spurs short-term growth, its effect on social welfare remains debated. Through regression analysis and proxy indexes for health, education, and infrastructure, we assess whether debt-driven policies improved living standards. Results show external debt marginally boosted income but minimally affected key HDIs like education and health. These findings reveal debt-financed development's inefficiency, calling for integrated fiscal policies prioritizing sustainable human development. The study recommends improved provincial-level data collection and targeted social sector investments for long-term welfare gains.
