Final Year Project

Project Title

Transmuting Mystical Poetry into Photo-Poetry

Description

Photography and poetry complement each other beautifully, hence we have chosen to reinterpret Sufi, Christian and Jewish mystical poetry through photography. Photography is silent poetry. In most cases the photograph encourages poetry, however in the case of photo-poetry the roles are reversed as it is the poem which influences the photograph; literature and visual art have an intricate relationship, one always impacts the other. The term photopoem is often used to describe the marriage of photography and poetry. The thesis topic we have chosen is interdisciplinary while incorporating the skills we have accumulated as students of Communication and Design. The medium we have chosen is a strong visual medium: photography evokes people’s imagination and helps them explore attributes about themselves that they may not have been aware of. Our field of research includes history, literature and religion.
