Final Year Project
Project Title
A Case Study on Gurumandir: Implications of Urbanization on Resident’s Place Attachment
Description
This research captures the microhistory of Gurumandir. Following the partition and the influx of population in the city of Karachi, the area started to transform from a bungalow-based residential area to a commercial and apartment-based neighborhood. My research aims to understand how this transformation impacted the place attachment of the residents of Gurumandir. It is important to learn about the way people interact with the city in order to be able to plan the city in a way that benefits them and maintains that sense of belonging. Urban projects that strip away certain aspects of a neighborhood that hold importance for its residents result in turn impact the way people feel about the area. The results so far show that urbanization has resulted in decreased place attachment for Gurumandir's residents.
