Unravelling the Fertility Dynamics of Rural-Urban Migration in Pakistan

This paper assesses the impact of rural-urban migration on fertility in Pakistan. Migration and fertility as a field of research have been extensively explored in some parts of the world. However, little to no research has been done on the topic in Pakistan. Considering the prevalence of rural-urban migration and active efforts by the government and various NGOs to circumvent the concern of overpopulation, this research can be useful for policymakers to understand how and if migration impacts fertility preferences. The results show a positive correlation between migration and fertility where an individual migrating results in an increase in fertility. Despite the limitations noted with the use of cross-sectional data, this research offers potential avenues for exploring migration and fertility, both independent topics and as a joint field of research.
