Final Year Project
Project Title
Rebuilding Karachi’s Civic Muscle: How People Show Up, Why They Don’t, and What Helps
Description
This research examines civic engagement in Karachi, focusing on how residents participate, the barriers they face, and what enables involvement. A structured survey explores perceptions of civic action and its link to democratic accountability. Findings show that while engagement exists, it is mostly informal (e.g., charity, volunteering), with limited participation in formal civic processes. Key barriers include safety concerns, low institutional trust, and logistical constraints, while clear participation channels and responsive institutions act as enablers. The study highlights an intent-action gap, driven by structural issues rather than apathy, and offers policy recommendations to strengthen trust, accessibility, and inclusive civic participation.
