Project Title

Elevated Women Of The North: A Study About The Role Of Social Capital In Women's Lives In The Northern Areas Of Pakistan

Description

Our study explores how women utilize various forms of social capital, within their networks to navigate social constraints to enhance their agency. We collected data through online surveys from 70 women residing in the Northern Areas. We focused on their social networks, access to resources, decision-making power, and perceptions of agency. The findings suggest that while family networks provide support, women actively participate in informal gatherings like Dars and Quran circles, which strengthens the elements of trust and reciprocity within their communities. These social interactions contribute to their confidence and enable them to access information and support systems. The study also reveals the presence of both positive and negative aspects of social capital. the presence of social divisions based on socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and cultural practices within their communities can limit their access to opportunities and hinder their overall empowerment.
