Final Year Project
Project Title
Exoticism for Sale: Orientalism, Mysticism, and the Western Gaze
Description
My final-year capstone, *Exoticism for Sale: Orientalism, Mysticism, and the Western Gaze*, is a 12,000+ word research project examining how Orientalist aesthetics and narratives continue to circulate within contemporary Western cultural markets. Drawing on postcolonial scholarship and critical cultural analysis, the project investigates how images of “mysticism” and “exoticism” are commodified and repackaged for global consumption. It situates these representations within broader philosophical and capitalist frameworks to understand how such portrayals persist beyond their colonial origins. By synthesizing existing academic literature with original analysis, the project argues that these narratives are not only historically inherited but also actively reproduced through consumer culture and cultural compliance.
