Habib University Hour of Code

How can you get the squirrel to the acorn? That is a puzzle that luminaries from diverse fields are encouraging you to solve.

Habib University is constantly looking for ways to engage constructively with the society. In December 2014, HU hosted an Hour of Code, as part of a global movement aimed at promoting Computer Science awareness and to increase participation in Computer Programming or “coding”. The Hour of Code is endorsed by figures like Malala Yusufzai, Barack Obama, Shakira, NBA star Chris Bosh, musician will.i.am, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and many others.

Internationally, the Hour of Code has reached more than 100 million students in 180+ countries, defying all age and gender barriers – the activities are aimed at ages “4 to 104″ and over 10 million girls participated in 2013.

Habib University’s Hour of Code was attended by students from local universities and schools. The activities involved solving engaging puzzles by putting together a set of instructions. Many of the participants paired up to solve the puzzles. Some of the accompanying parents also got into the action by teaming up with their children.

The Event was organized by Dr. Waqar Saleem (Assistant Professor Computer Science Habib University). He got support from a select group of HU students who volunteered to make the event possible.

The event was free to attend.
