Design &#038; Create is set around the key urban and environmental problem of waste in Karachi, and how we can design solutions to mitigate and manage it better. The playground carried out research and developed ideas for a contextually relevant exhibit list for the TDF MSC fabrication team to implement. The main goal was to curate an informative and interactive experience on this theme that is suitable for visitors of all ages. \r\n \r\nWorking in a multidisciplinary team of students from different programs, we started out by brainstorming creative ways of presenting different urban and environmental problems for a museum experience. We compiled ideas from exhibitions around the world and created a visual documentation of our inspiration. Alongside this, we created a database of existing interventions and solutions that tackle these problems locally and globally. We were particularly interested in showcasing the work of local innovators and organizations, and how we can learn from their efforts.\r\n\r\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/playground\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/design-create-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1284\" height=\"704\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/playground\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/design-create-1.jpg 1284w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/playground\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/design-create-1-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/playground\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/design-create-1-1024x561.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/playground\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/design-create-1-768x421.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1284px) 100vw, 1284px\" \/>\r\n\r\nAfter receiving feedback on our initial ideas from the TDF MSC team, we collectively decided to focus on the theme of waste moving forward. This led us to carry out more specific research to understand how the problem of waste is presenting itself in Karachi, what the causes and effects are, and where our waste ends up. We then had to shortlist our exhibit ideas whilst considering the flow and narrative they would form, and how they would fit spatially in the floor plan and layout. We decided the ground floor would be problem focused, and the mezzanine level above would be solutions focused, showcasing the steps we can take towards designing a better future for waste in Karachi. \r\n \r\nWe had to make sure that our ideas were user-friendly in that they catered to a variety of ages and learning styles, whilst not being easy to break or taken away. Once we had a final flow of exhibits with all these considerations in mind, we contextualized each exhibit idea with relevant data and information to make them Karachi-centered.
