Intizar Hussain is one of Pakistan’s foremost writers and arguably the most prolific. He writes short stories and novels in Urdu, and also columns for newspapers in English. Intizar Hussain has developed a unique prose style and is known for his nostalgia for older places and phenomena. He has translated several books from English to Urdu and some of his well-known works include "Basti", "Hindustan Se Aakhri Khat", "Agay Samander hai", "Shehr-e-Afsos", and "Wo Jo Kho Gaye". He has received many awards in Pakistan including the Sitare-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence), which recognizes individuals who have made an "especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of Pakistan, world peace, cultural or other significant public endeavors". He has also been recognized in India and the Middle East and was nominated for the "Man Booker International Award" in 2013.
