\nFrom Fear to Fare Safety, Harassment, and Financial Trade-offs in Karachi’s Transport System
\nFrom Fear to Fare: Safety, Harassment, and Financial Trade-offs in Karachi’s Transport System is a research project that explores how women in Karachi navigate public transport while constantly weighing safety concerns, the threat of harassment, and financial constraints. The aim is to understand the gendered nature of mobility, the barriers women face in accessing affordable and safe transportation, and how these barriers shape their daily choices and freedom of movement. Using a combination of survey data, regression analysis in STATA, web-scraped data from social media, and spatial mapping through QGIS, the study reveals patterns of vulnerability and resilience. Key findings highlight how financial limitations often force women to compromise on safety, and how harassmentboth witnessed and experienced deters women from using public transport altogether. This research advocates for policy reforms, safer urban transport systems, and a more inclusive approach to urban planning that centers women’s lived experiences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
