Mohammed Hanif will be reading from his new book Red Birds and discussing the translation of his first book, A Case of Exploding Mangoes, into Urdu. Both novels have received much critical acclaim and attention internationally. In a conversation about politics, the politics of politics in Pakistan, of translations and the traditions of translations, of critique and acclaim and the acclaim of critique, we discuss what it is that inspires Hanif’s inimitable brand of humour and satire which makes his writing unique, where he draws his courage from, and finally, what it takes in today’s world to be a voice of dissent.
