As of January 2023, Habib University has graduated 5 cohorts of young people who have gone on to a variety of scholarly and professional pursuits, impacting their communities in myriad ways.

Our alumni are the truest representation of what the University stands for and as such should be among our key strategic partners. However, due to the effects of COVID19 among other factors, many HU alumni today remain disengaged and disconnected from the University.

The First HU Alumni Convention will serve as the catalyst to rekindle positive relationship between our alumni and the University on a larger scale than ever before. The Planning Committee will be instrumental in ensuring that our identified goals are appropriate, and that the Convention is planned to effectively accomplish each of these goals.

Purpose

The overall aim of this Committee is to ensure the Alumni Convention is being planned such that:

  1. A connection is strengthened between the University and alumni and among the alumni themselves. Specifically ensuring alumni feel welcomed and connected on HU campus
  2. HU alumni are recognized and appreciated for their work in academia, industry, government, and civil society
  3. The wider HU community achieves greater insight regarding alumni journeys
  4. Alumni are facilitated to connect across different regions
  5. Help reignite a sense of ownership of the University among Alumni
  6. We clearly communicate the future alumni engagement program

The Alumni Convention is being envisioned to celebrate, recognize, and appreciate 5 cohorts of Habib University alumni who are making their mark across industry, academia, government, and civil society.

Habib Talks: A conversation with Zafar Masud

Mr. Zafar Masud is an international banker and entrepreneur currently serving as the President and CEO of The Bank of Punjab. Previously, he has been employed at senior positions by multinational banks across Pakistan and abroad. He has remained a member of the IMF motivated Task Force on Framing SOE Law, set up by the Ministry of Finance.

In May 2020, Zafar Masud miraculously survived the PK8303 airplane crash in Karachi. He was one of the only two survivors of the deadly plane crash. This life-altering experience inspired Mr. Masud to start a foundation that would work on passenger safety—resulting in the Zafar Masud Foundation, whose aim is to raise awareness about passenger safety and call for stricter plane safety regulations to prevent such catastrophic events.

Utilizing his diverse banking and finance experience, he regularly contributes to the local media on finance, economics, and energy. Zafar Masud has also published an e-book titled “𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐱”, a complete collection of his articles and publications. He has also published PK8303 – The Plane Crash Survivors Account, which relates to his surviving a plane crash in May 2020. Another e-book by Zafar Masud is currently under development and soon going to be released.

Looking forward to a wonderful discussion in Habib Talks.
