Reminiscent of conversations around a cozy fire, fireside chats bring substantial benefits to the community in terms of knowledge sharing, networking, inspiration, mentorship, and inclusivity. These conversations, when centered around meaningful subjects and themes like human-centered design, transdisciplinarity and education, enable us to create a collaborative learning environmentthat has a lasting impact on our community.

The playground, as the centre for transdisciplinarity, design and innovation, aims to provide a casual and welcoming atmosphere for designers to share their experiences, knowledge, and best practices. This will become a platform for seasoned designers to impart their wisdom and insights, helping newcomers and aspiring designers enhance their skills and understanding of design principles.

These interactions lead to innovative and multidisciplinary approaches to solving complex design challenges and building connections that strengthen the design ecosystem and promote a supportive network of professionals. Embracing the power of fireside chats in the design realm can ultimately lead to a more innovative, connected, and empowered design community.

About UX Pakistan

UX Pakistan is a not-for-profit student-run design conference, organised by the student design society (INDEX) at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Over time, UXPakistan has become Pakistan’s largest gathering of design professionals and is being consistently organised from the last five years.
UX Pakistan began with the dream of bridging the gap between students, professionals, and an understanding of human-centred design. UX design has been closely thought to be tied only to digital mediums and being a product of the newer age. UX Pakistan has aims to provide a holistic view of designing truly meaningful user experiences that can take all sorts of digital and non-digital forms.
UX Pakistan aims to provide a platform where ideas, at the intersection of design, technology and business, can be learned, shared, discussed and appreciated. LUMS, being one of the most forward thinking and multidisciplinary universities in Pakistan and with the agenda of “Learning without Borders”, provides an excellent platform for celebrating and supporting the transdisciplinary nature of design, In 2017, we organised Pakistan’s inaugural UX design conference. After observing huge success in the previous years with over 500 participants, UX Pakistan returns in 2024, bigger and better.

The workshop Jugaad-a Do What Jugaad-a Do intends to investigate the possible democratisation of design activity by making the process of designing and redesigning: open. “Jugaad” is a Cultural practice deployed by Pakistani locals where products are repurposed, reused, or upgraded by often unconventional means. It is an act of personalisation, making ingenious solutions and continuous design after design that contributes to product life longevity or up-cycling in many cases. The workshop investigates the Open Design of products and product parts using “Jugaad” as a cultural probe.
Who can participate?
Both internal Habib University community and external audience is welcome to register, here.
When & Where?
Friday, Sept 8th, from 2:30 – 6:30 pm – Saturday, Sept 9th, 10 – 5 pm @ The Playground (2nd floor, Habib University)
