Senior Design Intensive

Playground @ HU

The Playground officially opened its doors to the Habib community on Aug 7, 2017. The inaugural event was a week-long design intensive for the senior class as part of their Road to Graduation activities. Designed as an introduction to both, the Playground and Human-Centred Design, the intensive immersed them in one of the two challenges: improving pedestrian safety at Jauhar Chowrangi, or revitalizing underutilized spaces on campus. The class was divided into 8 teams, with 4 each working on one of the challenges. Each team had students from all 4 programs at Habib, and were constituted to be gender balanced. Over the 5 days, students conducted field/primary research and met with stakeholders during the Inspiration phase; defined their problem statement and brainstormed during the ideation phase; and conducted iterative prototyping of possible solutions during the Implementation phase. Additionally, they were asked to communicate their results through a short, 1-minute video, to enhance their communication skills. All 8 teams presented their final work on Friday, Aug 11th.
