Mevlana or My Master is how the thirteenth century poet and mystic Jalal-ud Din Muhammad Rumi is referred to in many countries where he is revered as one of the major figures in Sufism. Long regarded as one of the greatest poets in the Islamic world, his works are being studied all over the world.
Leading Urdu poet and writer Fahmida Riaz is the author of several collections of poetry and three novels. She has translated selected ghazals from Rumi’s Divan e Shams Tabriz into Urdu. She has written books on Rumi, Attar, Sheikh Saadi and Shah Latif for younger readers.
Fahmida Riaz will talk about the life and works of Rumi. She will recite selected ghazals in Persian followed by Urdu translations. The talk will be followed by Q&A.
