A renowned scientist with a passionate interest in the poetry of Ghalib, Dr Azra Raza was born in Karachi, and is an oncologist and research scientist by training. She is Professor of Medicine at Columbia University and lives in Manhattan. In “these scoundrel times”, she is convinced that the best way “to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world” is by promoting and publicizing the achievements of humanity in science, art, and literature. With Sara Suleri Goodyer, she has coauthored the recent book, Ghalib: Epistemologies of Elegance.
