The 4th annual Human Rights Film Festival is being held under the aegis of the United Nation’s Information Center and the European Nation, augmenting the global celebration marking the 70 years since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and raising awareness of human rights among Pakistani audience. Movies and documentaries on human rights violations across the world including freedom of expression, minority rights, gender equality, access to justice, death penalty, democracy, migration, children rights, honor killing among many others will be screened in universities, embassies, cultural institutions and UN venues.
For 2018, the film “Armed with Faith” has been chosen to be screened on Saturday, the 8th of December from 3 pm – 5 pm at Soorty Hall (E – 121). The documentary follows the men of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bomb Disposal Unit (KPK BDU) to the front lines of the war against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Pakistan. The lawless province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — considered the gateway for terrorists from neighboring Afghanistan — is the backdrop of our film. The battle for control of this porous border area remains critical to the stability of Pakistan and global security. Should Pakistan, a nuclear power, fall into the hands of terrorists, the entire world is at risk. We witness firsthand the dangerous struggle undertaken by the men of the KPK BDU to protect their country against the Taliban threat in the land they both call home.
