Abstract:
The ancient art of story-telling comes alive in a performance. The Dastaan-go was a narrator and recounted tales of war, magic, life in the court, trickery, and adventure. Tales from many diverse sources and various traditions were woven together in the dastaan. The richest tales are a part of the cycle Dastaan e Ameer Hamza and the story within a story of the Tilism e Hosh Ruba, literally magic which will blow your mind away. In a geographical terrain which is richly imagined, where sorcerers and warlords live and beautiful princesses abound. Dastaan e Amir Hamza is the longest narrative of its kind and was immensely popular in its day. Fawad Khan, Nazr ul Hasan and Meesam Naqvi, trained at the NAPA, are part of the new revival of the dastaan-goi and have held performances all over the country.
