{"id":5897,"date":"2019-11-30T13:26:37","date_gmt":"2019-11-30T13:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/?p=5897"},"modified":"2025-03-13T12:11:05","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T07:11:05","slug":"7th-meritorious-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/7th-meritorious-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Habib University Holds 7th Annual Meritorious Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In recognition of the remarkable academic achievements of students from various schools in Karachi, Habib University held its 7th Annual Meritorious Awards Ceremony on November 29, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>An integral feature of HU\u2019s annual calendar, the event was a platform to reward talented students from selected schools for exemplifying a dedication to academic endeavors and a passion for learning. Its purpose was also to connect the University with educational institutions and their students, allowing them to visit and explore the Habib campus and become aware of the opportunities available.<\/p>\n<p>The Karachi Grammar School, City School, Beaconhouse School System, and Nixor College were among the many schools whose students were recognized at the Meritorious Awards ceremony.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5410\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/meritorious-school.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty, Dr. Christopher Taylor, welcomed those attending the ceremony and congratulated the students on their achievements. He stated that the dedication and hard work shown by them exemplified the outstanding qualities that would make them excel in years to come.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are here today to celebrate all that you have accomplished and to acknowledge all your hard work,\u201d Dr. Taylor said while also paying tribute to the parents and counselors of the students.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5410\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/meritorious-taylor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Taylor told the students that they should look upon the ceremony as a recognition of strenuous efforts and dedication shown by them in their studies over the years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5410\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/meritorious-award.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the distribution of awards, the names were announced of individual students as per the schools they belonged to. The students went on stage to receive their shields from Dr. Christopher Taylor and other faculty members.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5410\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/meritorious-sachwani.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Later on, HU alumni Umrat Khan and Hassan Sachwani from the Class of 2019, who studied Social Development &amp; Policy and Computer Science respectively, also addressed the gathering and shared their experiences at Habib University.<\/p>\n<p>While congratulating the students on their accomplishments, they spoke about their journey from high school to university and the transformative time at Habib that helped spur forward their current professional endeavors.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cDon\u2019t be afraid to take a leap ahead. Trust yourself and your abilities\u2026the path forward and its opportunities will be bright for all of you.\u201d ~ Umrat Khan<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5410\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/meritorious-umrat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"336\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They urged the students that passing the bridge from high school to an undergraduate education can be intimidating, but it is also a period of great excitement, which will help set a course for their futures.<\/p>\n<p>Habib faculty, students, and staff \u2014 who interacted with the high-achievers and their parents attending the event\u2014 led the ceremony.
