In his inspiring talk called \u2018Persianate Studies as an Interdisciplinary Space\u2019 Dr. Amanat argued that &#8220;Persianate studies is an urgently productive, interdisciplinary field that can connect with more geographically constructed ambient fields, yielding new horizons of knowledge.&#8221; Clearly explaining the relevance of teaching and studying the humanities, he observed &#8220;with the tradition of Sufism, and tolerance, South Asia can contribute a multi-dimensional sense of tolerance that is a part of the intellectual endeavor that was a part and parcel of what education was in this part of the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/amanat.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4599 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/amanat-620x413.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/amanat-620x413.png 620w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/amanat-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/amanat-940x627.png 940w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/amanat.png 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Symposium\u2019s two panel discussions included \u2018Coffee with Plato, Al Farabi, and Marx\u2019, with Dr. Muhammad Haris, Dr. Nauman Naqvi, and Dr. Jessica Radin, who discussed the relevance of ancient, Islamic and modern philosophy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181215_131407-1-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4631 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181215_131407-1-1-620x476.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181215_131407-1-1-620x476.png 620w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181215_131407-1-1-300x231.png 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/20181215_131407-1-1.png 920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second panel discussion titled \u2018Doors of Perception\u2019 included Dr. Nur Sobers-Khan, who highlighted the \u201cimportance of aesthetics in understanding human beings and societies\u201d, Dr. Fracisco Jose Luis, and Dr. Waleed Ziad, all faculty of the CLS program at Habib University. Dr. Waleed observed that &#8220;we have inherited a system of education that doesn&#8217;t encourage us to look inwards&#8221;, while Dr. Muhammad Haris responded &#8220;are we actually inheriting knowledge from the past? If we don\u2019t have knowledge, are we actually leaving any knowledge for the future generations? Answering questions such as this are the reason programs like CLS are important.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7141.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4621 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7141-620x413.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7141-620x413.png 620w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7141-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7141-940x627.png 940w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7141.png 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Much of the day\u2019s speakers subtly gave their personal insights and experiences that have shaped their learning journeys. In her insightful talk on \u2018Ilm and Islam&#8217;s Potential Contributions to a Sustainable Science in the Global Age\u2019, Dr. Sinkwan Cheng, Professor of CLS, explored the intricate relations between different forms of knowledge across the ancient world and modernity, as well as across Europe and the Islamic world, and how \u201cIslam has a lot to contribute to our understanding of the western civilization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7114.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4622 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7114-620x413.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7114-620x413.png 620w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7114-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7114-940x627.png 940w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/IMG_7114.png 1500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Jessica Radin contributed that &#8220;this incredible joy that comes from gaining knowledge, however hard it is to gain, is one of the most important keys of life. This is what we try to transfer to our students. The pursuit of knowledge requires us to face that we are in moments of crises and there are possibly bad and irredeemable things that we must face with honesty and without despair.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A highlight of this Symposium were short yet insightful presentations by students of Habib University, speaking on their field research on the \u2018Sacred Geographies\u2019 of LasBela during a course of the same title. In fact, these presentations were a testament to the university\u2019s interdisciplinary teaching, which is at once theoretical and practical, analytic and emotive, historical and constructive.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Dr. Waleed Ziad introduced a joint project by Habib University students and Lasbela University, titled &#39;Sacred Geographies.&#39;
