Hogendijk, Willem Frederik de Graaf, and Tom Jon Ester Reijngoudt, from the University of Utrecht, Netherlands travelled to Pakistan to share their expertise.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3992 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"523\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-1.jpg 702w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-1-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-1-620x462.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hogendijk has been conducting\/part of workshops on Astrolabes since 1988. There is a myth which suggests that the Astrolabe is used for navigational purposes but it is an incorrect assumption. An Astrolabe is an elaborate inclinometer, used to measure the inclined position of a celestial body in the sky. It can identify stars or planets, determine local latitude given local time (vice versa), and to survey. Furthermore, according to Dr. Hogendijk, \u201cthe Astrolabe has deep connections to Islamic tradition, mysticism, poetry and literature rather than simply serving a scientific purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3994 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-2.jpg 702w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-2-620x413.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Based on Islamic manuscripts found in Istanbul, Cairo, Tehran and Leiden, the connection between Islamic tradition and Astrolabes goes back to the 9th Century, as it was found that approximately 2000 Astrolabes exist in the present from approximately 10,000-12,000 Astrolabes manufactured in the Islamic tradition between the 9th and 19th Century. As Dr. Hogendijk said, \u201cthere is a rich Islamic history\/tradition regarding Astrolabes but it is not credited as most information found regarding Astrolabes has European sources\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3996 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-3.jpg 702w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/astro-3-620x413.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The aim of these workshops is to give the Islamic tradition and history on Astrolabes the recognition it deserves. According to research the best astrolabes were made in Lahore during the 17th century. \u201cThey started making astrolabes in Lahore in 1560 and continued till 1700s.
