HU faculty initiative <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/numaishkhi\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>\u2018Numaish Karachi\u2019<\/em><\/strong><\/a> also beat other nominees to take top honors in the Art+Design Innovation category at the same event.<\/p>\n<p>The Most Innovative University Award was accepted by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/AHSS\/dr-nauman-naqvi\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Nauman Naqvi<\/a><\/strong>, Director of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/academics\/habib-core\/\" target=\"_blank\">Liberal Core<\/a><\/strong> at HU, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/SSE\/dr-mohammad-shahid-shaikh\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Shahid Shaikh<\/a><\/strong>, Dean at HU\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/academics\/sse\/\" target=\"_blank\">School of Science &amp; Engineering (SSE)<\/a><\/strong>. While the Art+Design Innovation Award was accepted by <a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/AHSS\/saima-zaidi\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Ms. Saima Zaidi<\/strong><\/a>, Assistant Professor for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/academics\/ahss\/comm-design\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Communication Studies and Design<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0at HU.<\/p>\n<p>Habib University was awarded the title in recognition of its first-of-its-kind liberal arts model of education, which requires students from both the <a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/academics\/ahss\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>School of Arts, Humanities &amp; Social Sciences<\/strong><\/a> and the School of Science &amp; Engineering to take courses in the humanities, social and natural sciences in order to develop as well-rounded individuals. Habib University had chosen this model to fulfill its commitment to the development of leadership potential and universality as an essential goal of a truly higher education.<\/p>\n<p>HU had received a <a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/nature-article-urges-more-science-universities-to-adopt-liberal-arts-model\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>similar endorsement<\/strong><\/a> for its liberal arts model last year in an article published in the renowned science magazine, <em>Nature<\/em>. The article, authored by Dr. Nidhal Guessoum and Dr. Athar Osama for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/institutions-revive-universities-of-the-muslim-world-1.18637\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>October 29, 2015 issue of <em>Nature<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, was a summary of the key results, conclusions and recommendations of an international task force of experts. Recommending the kind of broad, holistic education espoused by Habib University as the right approach to improving higher education in Pakistan and other Muslim societies, the authors had encouraged other universities in the Muslim world to follow suit.<\/p>\n<p><em>Numaish Karachi <\/em>\u2013 an interdisciplinary initiative of HU, \u2018I Am Karachi,\u2019 Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and Ministry of Culture \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/numaish-karachi-scores-nomination-pif-national-innovation-awards-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>had been nominated<\/strong><\/a> for the Art+Design Innovation award along with Burka Avengers, AZCORP Entertainment, SOC Films for 3 Bahadur, and Patari. Led by\u00a0Ms. Saima Zaidi, other core team members involved in the project from Habib University include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/SSE\/syeda-saleha\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dr. Saleha Raza<\/strong><\/a>, Assistant Professor for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/academics\/sse\/computer-science\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Computer Science (CS)<\/strong><\/a>, Ifrah Jaffri, Research Assistant for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/academics\/sse\/electrical-engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Electrical Engineering<\/strong><\/a>, and Gulbadin Khan, Lab Assistant for CS.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were part of the PIF-organized 3rd Annual Pakistan Innovation Forum 2016. They featured outstanding achievements from a range of different areas, including education, healthcare, government, corporate sector, social and civic sectors, industry, agri\/rural businesses, art and design, financial technologies, startups, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The conference, titled INNOVATORS OF TOMORROW, sought to showcase and promote individuals and institutions who had gone against the tide to innovate and build something from scratch, according to a press release issued by PIF. It featured an Innovation Showcase that brought together about 50 innovators from across the country to demonstrate their ideas and talents. Leaders from Pakistan\u2019s corporate sector, government, and civil society were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the launch ceremony, Mr. Saad Amanullah Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Innovation Foundation, said: \u201cOne of the three main streams of our work is about recognizing and rewarding Pakistani Innovators.
