Spending eight weeks of my summer up in the mountains, away from the scorching heat of Karachi, was something I was eagerly looking forward to.<\/p>\n<p>The culture and lifestyle of the locals of Gilgit is entirely different than Karachi; slow-paced life, <em>namak wali chai<\/em> (salty tea), bland food (as compared to food prepared in Karachi), kissing the other\u2019s hand when greeting someone out of respect, comprehending the language, limited or no access to internet, and sitting or sleeping on the floor amongst other things\u2026it was hard for me to adjust to my surroundings. However, sacrifices had to be made and the locals there were are so hospitable and welcoming that I felt inclusive in no time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2007\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/inside-shaheera-1.jpg\" alt=\"inside-shaheera-1\" width=\"361\" height=\"352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/inside-shaheera-1.jpg 361w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/inside-shaheera-1-300x293.jpg 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/inside-shaheera-1-45x45.jpg 45w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I had the opportunity to work on the Gender and Climate Change project and collected data on <em>\u2018the effects of climate change and the role of women in disaster risk reduction.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I travelled to Hunza, Bagrot Valley, Danyor and Oshikhandass for my field work and interviewed officials as well as others at Women\u2019s Organizations (WOs), regarding how they thought climate change affects men and women differently, and how women can play a role in mitigating the effects of climate change.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2008\" style=\"width: 712px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2008\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2008\" src=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/inside-shaheera-2.jpg\" alt=\"The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, Gilgit Core Office.\" width=\"702\" height=\"395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/inside-shaheera-2.jpg 702w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/inside-shaheera-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/habib.edu.pk\/HU-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/inside-shaheera-2-620x349.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2008\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, Gilgit Core Office.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The overall findings as well as my life in Gilgit made me realize that I lead an incredibly privileged life. Sometimes travelling to such places makes one appreciate the importance of things that we usually take for granted. It also made me realize that life is really at peace without the internet!
