Professor Emeritus of Princeton University delivers insightful lecture on the trends on modern democracy<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

HABIB UNIVERSITY, August 25, 2016: <\/strong>Habib University hosted a public lecture featuring\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Richard Falk<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 a renowned international law and international relations scholar \u2013 here at the Tariq Rafi Lecture Theater. The lecture,\u00a0titled \u2018Sovereign States, Human Rights, and World (Dis)Order\u2019<\/strong>, was part of Habib University’s\u00a0Dean\u2019s Lecture Series<\/strong><\/a>, which invites notable intellectuals\u00a0and research scholars from around the world to discuss global socio-economic issues.<\/p>\n

Dr. Richard Falk\u00a0is Professor Emeritus of International Law and Practice at Princeton University, and Research Fellow in Global and International Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He recently completed a six-year term as UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Occupied Palestine, and his talk at Habib University revolved around tracing the roots of the contemporary international political order and its implications for inter-state interactions with respect to human rights, law, and justice.<\/p>\n

Starting his lecture with a bit of history,\u00a0Dr. Falk recalled the sense of achievement\u00a0in the West following the dismantling of the Soviet Union. The political commentators of that era, Dr. Falk reflected,\u00a0had expected the fall of the USSR\u00a0to lead to\u00a0an age of universal human rights, economic freedom, and justice. Instead, sovereign states quickly started\u00a0moving away from these\u00a0ideals\u00a0to take a more\u00a0realist approach to diplomacy and inter-state politics.<\/p>\n
