The first legacy space \u2018for an institution outside of the Habib institutions\u2019, called the Standard Chartered Classroom, was inaugurated at the Habib University Campus in Karachi on Thursday, January 21.<\/p>\n
Standard Chartered\u2019s gift to Habib University has made a considerable contribution towards higher education by creating a learning space located on the first floor of the campus, directly connected to staff offices, as well as to the first floor faculty pods, several other learning spaces and the marquee auditorium.<\/p>\n
It overlooks and opens to a terrace that is regularly used for networking and serving refreshments after events in the auditorium, as well as for students who enjoy the open view and greenery. Making up part of the front fa\u00e7ade of HU, the Standard Chartered Classroom is an iconic space.<\/p>\n
It has been used mainly for classes of the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS), including Mathematics for Social Science, as well as of the Liberal Core, such as Rhetoric and Communication. Recently, a first-of-its-kind workshop by Stanford University\u2019s Design School was held here with HU\u2019s internationally qualified faculty.<\/p>\n
The day began with Wasif Rizvi, President Habib University, briefing the ceremony, saying \u201cThis is a first, where a global organization, which within the community of banks, like universities is actually quite historic\u2026and they have given the first non-Habib private institution donation to Habib University.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chancellor of Habib University, Mr. Rafiq M. Habib then shared a few words saying, \u201cThe relationship with Standard Chartered bank goes back more than 30 something years. I have seen them and us go through different times, but the commitment from both sides has always been firm, which has been a long, fruitful and happy relationship. Thank you very much from the House of Habib.\u201d<\/p>\n
Finally, Mr. Shazad Dada, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank (Pakistan) Ltd, was given a token of appreciation from Habib University, following which he addressed the ceremony saying that the deep rooted relationship would go many more years.<\/p>\n
