On August 8, 2026, the Habib University campus buzzed with vibrant energy as the institution opened its doors to the incoming Class of 2030. The annual Welcome Day brought together incoming freshmen, parents, faculty, and leadership, marking the start of a transformative four-year undergraduate journey.<\/p>\n

The morning opened with a lively Meet & Greet, offering families an immersive introduction to Habib University\u2019s distinctive liberal arts and sciences curriculum, dedicated student support networks, and community ethos. Parents and guardians engaged directly with faculty and staff, gaining a firsthand look into the collaborative environment their students will call home.<\/p>\n

\nAt the start of the Welcome Evening proceedings, Dr Shahid Sheikh, Interim Vice President Academic Affairs reminded students of the transformative journey that awaits them the next four years, “here, students learn that different fields of knowledge are not separate islands, but different waves of the same ocean. This journey will take them into uncertainty, but that is exactly when real learning begins, when we have the courage to challenge our own uncertainties.”<\/p>\n

\nContinuing a cornerstone Habib tradition, University President Wasif Rizvi inaugurated the formal ceremony by asking the incoming cohort to pause and honor their parents and guardians, whose unwavering commitment paved the way to this milestone.<\/p>\n

President Rizvi<\/a> then delivered his keynote address, titled \u201cReorientation to Reality.\u201d<\/em> Challenging students to critically examine centuries of historical extraction and the complex forces shaping today\u2019s world, he underscored the necessity of intellectual consciousness and a reparative worldview.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this university, to flourish, reorientation is the first step, intellectually, spiritually, as a community member,\u201d<\/em> President Rizvi emphasized, urging the incoming cohort to approach their education as an active pursuit of service and collective repair rather than passive instruction.<\/p>\n

Following the address, the cohort split into targeted sessions designed to foster dialogue and connection. President Rizvi hosted an intimate conversation with the students, fielding their initial reflections and aspirations for the years ahead.<\/p>\n

Concurrently, parents gathered for the Parents as Partners<\/em> panel, featuring alumni parents, faculty, and senior leadership. The session went far beyond traditional academic discussions, offering a reflective look into the institutional values that set Habib University apart. Sumera Naqvi, mother of three Habib alumni, shared what convinced her family to trust the institution, highlighting the vital role of arts, literature, and culture in shaping a well-rounded mind, alongside the importance of cultivating a strong, homegrown narrative in an increasingly complex world.<\/p>\n

In another Habib University tradition, the incoming cohort sat down for a warm one-on-one conversation with the President, where he shared why, in today\u2019s complex and rapidly changing world, future leaders like themselves must choose institutions that do more than educate. He shared how they must help them recognize the fractures around them, and equip them with the courage to repair and heal them.<\/p>\n

\nTajreen Midhat (Lecturer II in the Social Development and Policy program), spoke about how Habib University nurtures students holistically, not just academically, “The university is teaching not just what students should know, but what kind of citizens, and what kind of human beings, they need to become.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also spoke about Habib University\u2019s flagship curriculum, the Habib Liberal Core<\/a> and how it equips students with the skills to \u201cunderstand their place in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Munzir Zafar (Assistant Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering), and Faculty Director for Applied Learning and Research, shared with parents how students have the opportunity to work on real-world problems alongside the industry, gaining practical skills and problem-solving acumen, for example, through the Takhleeq Office. “The core aspect of a Habib education is that it teaches you to think beyond your niche, and the skills that are valuable in the corporate sector as well. With industry-partnered projects and applied learning opportunities, the Class of 2030 will have much to look forward to.”<\/p>\n

Welcome Day 2026 set a thoughtful, ambitious tone for the Class of 2030. As these students embark on their academic paths, they step into a vibrant intellectual community dedicated to asking difficult questions, challenging paradigms, and reimagining the future.<\/p>\n
