One of life\u2019s most beautiful and surprising aspects is change – how it is woven into the very fabric of our existence. Writers, philosophers, and great thinkers across time have all agreed: change is inevitable. Mahmoud Darwish reminds us, \u2018You won\u2019t find the same person twice, not even in the same person,\u2019 and the Greek philosopher Heraclitus famously said, \u2018No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it\u2019s not the same river and he\u2019s not the same man.\u2019 Just as these ideas resonate across human experience, they echo in the graduating batch of Habib University each year. From teenagers stepping nervously into the unfamiliar walls of Habib in 2022, to young adults filling out their \u2018Intent to Graduate\u2019 forms with nostalgia and reflection, the class of 2026 has completed a full-circle journey of growth and discovery. With only a few days left in the place that has become a cornerstone of their identity, they look back on their journey, each memory, challenge, and triumph telling a story – and in the rhythm of four years, they narrate it through a song.<\/p>\n

Aziz Narsi (Communication and Design\u2019 26)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A name familiar to all on campus, it is known that if you make a niche Bollywood reference or mention something from The Godfather, Aziz Narsi\u2019s eyes light up with delight and joy. Entering Habib as an anxious kid who felt scared in an unfamiliar environment, with films being all he thought about, Aziz has now become his most confident self, willing to take risks and someone who understands that creativity emerges from various creations, not just films.<\/p>\n

In the midst of his time at Habib, Aziz faced an uncertain period when he wasn\u2019t sure if he would be able to complete his studies because of some complexities with his family moving abroad. However, he is utterly grateful that he got the chance to stay, because all that followed were memories he will cherish for a lifetime. As a senior, Aziz reminisces about the contentment he felt when his first film, SUR, received appreciation and ovation from the crowd; the challenges and growth his course Devised Theatre<\/em> gave him; and his favorite memory of performing with his classmates for this course, where they spoke about belonging – a feeling that he himself now embodies.<\/p>\n

While Aziz believes that he has changed considerably since coming to Habib, he defines his experiences through the song Aitbear, by Junaid Jamshaed<\/strong>. Speaking of hope and resilience, Aziz says, \u201cThere were many moments where I thought, \u2018This is too difficult for me to deal with,\u2019 but just like the song says, \u2018Rastay koi mil hi jayega<\/em>,\u2019 I knew I would find my way. And I did. So you just have to trust the process.\u201d As he prepares to graduate, Aziz advises the incoming batches at Habib to embrace change as it comes, to become different people by trying new things, and to make the most out of every opportunity, as he did.<\/p>\n

\"azizKhuzaima Nizami (Social Development and Policy\u2019 26)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

With an answer to every question there could possibly be, Khuzaima Nizami is a metaphorical depiction of a human encyclopedia, forever ready to discuss the meaning of life or debate at any given time of the day. Initially, Khuzaima joined Habib with the desire to pursue Comparative Humanities as his bachelor\u2019s degree, but due to his father\u2019s persistence, he switched to Social Development and Policy and fell in love with it.<\/p>\n

His love for his degree blossomed the first time he stepped into Professor Aaron\u2019s class, Introduction to Cultural Anthropology. With nothing but fondness in his eyes, Khuzaima describes this class as one of his most memorable times at Habib because it completely transformed the way he perceived the world. Describing it as a turning point in his life, Khuzaima recalls how it changed the way he thinks as a person about society, people, cultures, and the world. He also got to experiment more with anthropology by spending his summer semester at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2024 and pursuing his own thesis project in Cholistan, where he spent two months conducting ethnographic research that remains very close to his heart.<\/p>\n

Echoing his passion for what he lives for, Khuzaima reflects on his four-year journey at Habib through the song \u201cVienna\u201d by Billy Joel<\/strong>. He says, \u201cThe entire song is about balancing your life while also making sure you don\u2019t overlook the other beautiful things in the world.\u201d Drawing from his own experiences, Khuzaima advises incoming students to pursue Social Development and Policy, explaining that the program not only shapes the way you think but also teaches you how to grow and change.<\/p>\n

\"khuzaimaShahmir Chaudhry (Electrical Engineering \u201826)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Gearing up to apply for the next Teaching Assistant position or collecting extracurricular experiences for his LinkedIn, Shahmir is always on the lookout for the next challenge because he believes in creating opportunities rather than searching for them. As someone who was confused in his first year and wanted to try everything, Shahmir has gained clarity through his time at Habib and, as a senior, has set clear goals for himself.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on his major, Shahmir reminisces about how it has made him more collaborative and changed the way he works. With group projects and deadlines looming, Shahmir has realized the importance of teamwork and how he can rely on his teammates in challenging courses, with some of his favourite memories being the time he spent with his friends, Mysha and Nahyan, in their labs working together. Recalling his work, Shahmir is proud of his STRP project on diagnosing autism using brain images, as it was something he was unfamiliar with but had the chance to work on and learn from. Talking about his achievements, he also describes his summer semester at the University of California, Berkeley, as transformative – a place that gave him many memories he will carry for life, alongside those he made at Habib. Among his favourite experiences are meeting some of his closest friends and having the opportunity to work with his mentor, Tariq Mumtaz.<\/p>\n

Speaking of beginnings and endings, Shahmir defines his time at Habib through the song \u201cEnd of Beginning\u201d by Joe Keery<\/strong>, as he firmly believes that the end of something is the beginning of something new and exciting. As he prepares to graduate, he advises the incoming batch to \u201clearn to formulate your own opinions regarding education and career, and not be influenced by others.\u201d<\/p>\n

Always ready for the next adventure, be it playing cricket at midnight or trying the next hotpot place with her friends, Amena is someone who is always prepared to make her friends have the time of their lives. Reflecting on how much she has changed since coming to Habib, Amena remembers herself initially as a shy individual who was hesitant to speak to her fellow batch members, and now, as a senior, as someone who has interacted with almost everyone in her batch and has socialized more than any of us.<\/p>\n

Over the course of her academic journey at Habib, Amena reflects on how she has become more confident in her abilities and the skills she has developed through her classes and projects. Speaking about her most remarkable achievement, she highlights the app she built for her Software Engineering class and how it further fueled her passion for her degree. She also acknowledges her growth from someone who was once too shy to interact with teachers to someone who now constantly schedules meetings with them to seek feedback and gain insight into their perspectives. Apart from praising her teachers as highly motivating, she also appreciates her friends, the people who push her to do better in life and with whom she has made lasting memories.<\/p>\n

With the people she has met and continues to meet, Amena describes her time at Habib through the song \u201c<\/strong>Taare Zameen Par\u201d by Shankar Mahadevan, as it captures every emotion she feels and plays in her mind as she enters her final months at Habib. As she prepares to leave, her advice to students is: \u201cGo talk to teachers, communicating and reaching out to people really helps. Being around good people matters; your circle defines the kind of person you become and shapes you.\u201d<\/p>\n

While blending different aspects of her life with music, Sara Khan rediscovered her adoration for music during her time at Habib. Entering Habib with a pre-engineering background and a specific worldview, Sara began to engage with different aspects of her degree, and through her interdisciplinary explorations, her perception of the world transformed significantly.<\/p>\n

As someone who grew up fond of music, Sara began to understand the complex and rich musical traditions and the spiritual meanings intertwined within them only after coming to Habib. It was here that she met a professor who agreed to teach her an instrument she had long admired, which eventually led her to buy her own rubab. Speaking of the impact Habib has had on her transformation, Sara recalls how she gained invaluable skills through writing workshops, reading circles, and her constant engagement with music at Habib. With these skills, Sara no longer shies away from participating in political discussions; rather, she is often at the forefront of them, as she aspires to be a voice for the oppressed. While this is her goal, Sara has already been actively working toward it, with her final-year project focusing on the social norm of izzat by critically analyzing gendered violence during the Partitions of 1947 and 1971, challenging the notion of honor being attached to women in society.<\/p>\n

While Sara\u2019s years at Habib University are filled with countless memories, she looks back on them fondly. From attending musical performances where her friends sang and played instruments, to intellectually stimulating conversations at Sky Dhaba with her professors, to playing music with her friends, Sara captures all of these moments through the song \u201cDil Ka Ghar\u201d by Bayaa<\/strong>n. Describing Habib and the people she met here as her home, Sara advises incoming students to: \u201cArrive with curiosity and generosity toward the unfamiliar. Step beyond your comfort zone and speak to people who intrigue you; doing so is how I found friendships that have sustained me since my first year. Ask questions freely. You are here to learn, not to perform certainty. And finally, allow yourself to wander – walk without purpose across campus, especially in winter. In those quiet moments, Habib reveals itself most fully.\u201d<\/p>\n

It comes as no surprise that when someone hears the words rowing and campus in the same sentence, they immediately think of Maira, who else if not the champion herself. From being one of the finest rowers Karachi has seen to becoming Habib University\u2019s first-ever intern at Procter & Gamble, Maira reflects on how profoundly she has grown over her years at Habib. Entering university feeling out of place and weighed down by imposter syndrome in her first year, she once believed that the doubt would never fade. Yet, over time, that uncertainty transformed into confidence, from founding Habib\u2019s rowing team to trusting her abilities and owning her achievements, Maira\u2019s journey has truly come full circle.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on her academic path, Maira shares how her major shaped her into a more problem-solving-oriented individual, teaching her to approach complexity with nuance and clarity. She speaks proudly of her capstone project, Almari, a passion project that ventures into the intersection of fashion and computer science, something she had envisioned for a long time. Among her most unforgettable moments is returning to campus after breaking national powerlifting records, an achievement that brought recognition and affirmation she will never forget. From an intellectual standpoint, she recalls a philosophy course taught by Dr. Najeeb Jan, as deeply transformative. The course reshaped her understanding of the world, revealing how power is embedded in everyday actions and structures, a realization that left a lasting imprint on how she now perceives society.<\/p>\n

If her four years at Habib had a soundtrack, Maira chose \u201cCould Have Been Me\u201d by The Struts.<\/strong> The song, she explains, captures her relentless drive to seize every opportunity and live without regret, a reminder to do everything possible in the present rather than wishing she had acted when the chance existed. As she prepares to graduate, Maira\u2019s advice to incoming batches is simple yet powerful \u201cPrioritize learning over grades, and remember that hard work will always outshine talent when talent fails to put in the effort\u201d.<\/p>\n
