Strengthening Global Connections: Habib University Visits Chicago


As Pakistan’s first community-owned institution, Habib University continues to garner support from community leaders around the globe who believe in the transformative power of education. In line with the ongoing efforts, the University’s President Wasif Rizvi visited Chicago, accompanied by Aqsa Junejo, Asst. Director and Head of Department Marketing & Communications, and Tatheer Hamdani, President’s Chief of Staff & Senior Director of Global Engagement.

The purpose of the visit was to engage with the Pakistani diaspora in the US and strengthen ties with the community. Among the prominent supporters were Mr. Raghib Hussain, Mr. Mir Imran, Mr. Rafiq Muhammadi, Mr. Zia, Mariyam al Sikafi, and Rida Khan – individuals who have been instrumental in Habib University’s global engagement journey. These interactions mark a significant step in the University’s journey of advancing world-class education in Pakistan through strong and committed community support.

During the visit, Mr. Rizvi met with CEO Pragmatium Consulting, Mr. Haris Ahmed, CEO Superhost Hospitality, Mr. Ashraf Lakhany, and other esteemed individuals from various backgrounds. These community leaders expressed a strong interest in maintaining connections with Habib University. They showed support towards the shared vision of advancing quality higher education and accessibility through scholarships for meritorious students.

In addition, a meet-up hosted by Ashraf Lakhany was attended by community members keen on staying connected with the University. It aimed to promote discussions about establishing a vibrant Habib University community in Chicago, highlighting the increasing visibility of the school in the US.

Habib University is a unique, first-of-its-kind institution in Pakistan—community-owned and driven by a profound belief in redefining educational philanthropy. Our recent success in upholding our intellectual and philanthropic mission reflects the steadfast commitment of our global community to revolutionize undergraduate education through collective community support.

Notably, from the Class of 2024, 87% of the students received scholarships or financial aid that allowed them to seize exceptional educational opportunities, highlighting our commitment to making quality education accessible to all.

In essence, Habib University’s successful visit to Chicago represents the start of a larger initiative to strengthen and expand our global community ties.
